One thing that I learned in this chapter was how teaching kids to use creative programs could help them out in their future jobs. This is because people will have to come up with creative solutions in their jobs and learning about these programs at an early age will help them. Another thing that I learned was about a new definition of musical literacy, compared to the old definition of just being able to read music. The new definition deals more with encouraging students to experiment with different ways to express music. The third thing that I learned about in this chapter were the tools sequencers and notation software, both of these are used in the process of composing of producing music.
Something that was talked about in this chapter that I am sure I will use in my classroom is using the Internet as a tool to find images of artwork to share with an art class. This is a good way to show them many examples and get them excited. Another fun thing to bring into a classroom is the use of programs that allow you to manipulate and edit images.
I thought that it was interesting when they spoke about bringing more popular music into the music program. This is something that I did not really see in school and I was just wondering how often it is actually used in a classroom, and also how much a student would get out of a lesson based on the music of their own generation and taste.
