chapter 15

The first thing that I learned about in this book was the difference between the use of the terms impairment, disability, and handicap. It is very easy to use these terms synonymously, but it explained in this chapter how they are different and why it is important to know the difference. Another interesting thing I learned about was all the laws and policies that go along with using technology to teach special education. It was an interesting thing to think about that teachers need to be so well versed on these laws. The third thing that I learned about in this chapter was about inclusion, and how students with special needs are more included into the general education classrooms than they use to be.
Something that I would really like to integrate into my classroom is the use of assistive technology devices. these would be very useful in special education learning because it is a program that improves their functional capabilities. The other suggestion that the book made that seemed very useful was the software that helped develope these student's reading, writing, and math skills.
One question I had while reading this chapter was just about what I will see in the classroom that I end up teaching in. I wonder how prepared to meet all the needs of a special ed. student?
